Flower Arranging Tips and Advice

How to bright up your home with fresh flowers

If you have been sent one of our bouquets chances are that it will be a hand tied bouquet.
We create these as many recipients are not able to produce a nice vase arrangement for themselves.
In which case a hand-tied just needs to be prepared by cutting off
the bottom of the stems and placing the bouquet into a vase.

I delivered a hand tied bouquet to a dear lady close to our workshop not long ago.
A few days later I saw her and asked her how her flowers where.
'They are beautiful' she said - 'I undid the bouquet added a few bits out of the garden
 and filled 3 vases.
I did so enjoy arranging them - it made the gift extra special and occupied my whole afternoon!
My son who sent them will be pleased.  It was so much nicer to arrange the flowers myself
and take some time over them -
much better than being  stuck in front of the television on a cold winters day!'

So, inspired by Mrs Johnson we say 'If you want to untie the bouquet- go ahead!'

Here's a few ideas.............

A beautiful flower arrangement can become a focal point of a room
or a welcome as you enter a hallway.
But if you split your bouquet you can have 3 simple arrangements from the 1 bouquet.
Just a couple of stems with a leaf can brighten the darkest corner,
and a jolly bunch in a simple jug can cheer up a kitchen window sill.

Bud Vases

A bud vase with a single stem or a couple of stems is a simple and elegant
flower arrangement. Lovely for a small space like a dressing table. Cut your flowers
to about twice the height of the vase.  To enhance the beauty of the flowers also
include some linear foliage or an interesting twisted twig. Be imaginative with bud vases -
if you don't have a bud vase recycle any beautiful small glass container you have about
the house such as a perfume bottle.  Another idea is to create a small arrangement
in a wine glass. Fix some florist foam in the glass and to hide the foam surround it in coloured
wool - then just make up a small arrangement to compliment the colour of the wool.

Basket Arrangements

A basket arrangement will brighten any room.  They make perfect gifts for any occasion and
are particularly suitable as a 'Get Well' gift for a friend in a hospital.

Baskets come in all shapes, colours and sizes.  Have fun choosing a basket and let your imagination
run wild. Remember, however ,that even though many baskets have a plastic liner -
be sure to add a plastic container in the bottom of your basket to ensure no water leaks onto
your furniture as the water will stain!

Centrepieces and Table Arrangements

The trick for a successful centrepiece or table arrangement is not to make them too tall
as to obstruct views across the table whilst your guests are seated.
Create a piece to create the mood of the room or indeed the meal - Having a Chinese meal?
- reflect the colours in the meal, create the arrangement in a rice bowl and finish
the arrangement with a couple of strategically placed chopsticks
 - its sure to be a discussion point over dinner!
