Mother's Day
Mother's Day, or more traditionally Mothering Sunday falls 4 weeks before Easter Sunday.
In 2008 this will be Sunday March 2nd
During the 1600's, England
celebrated a day called 'Mothering Sunday' celebrated on
the fourth Sunday of Lent. 'Mothering Sunday' honours the mothers of
England.
As Christianity spread throughout Europe the celebration changed to honour
'Mother Church' -
the spiritual power that gave them life and protected them from harm.
Over time, the church festival blended with the Mothering Sunday
celebration.
People began honouring their mothers as well as the church.
During this time many of England's poor work as servants for the
wealthy.
Most servants would live at the houses of their employers but on Mothering
Sunday
the servants would have they day off and were encouraged to return
home and spend
the day with their mothers.
A special cake, called a Mothering Cake, was often brought along to
provide a festive touch.
Sometimes furmety was served which was a mixture of wheat grains boiled in
sweet milk,
sugared and spiced.
Today we have Mothers Day in
England but there is another International
Mothers Day across Europe and America.
Because Flower Delivery UK can be sources via the internet across
the world we find we
have two busy events. If your Mum is in Britain we can deliver
flowers to her on British Mothers Day,
but if you are in say Australia or America we can send flowers to your
mother
on your local mother's day - so long as Mum lives in Britain!
So what is a lovely Mothers Day
present
- a beautiful bunch of flowers, some yummy chocolates and a home
made card.
My son is 18 and I still have all the home-made cards he's sent me.
Its so much more special that handing over £2 to the cards shop!
So what have we got for you for Mothers Day
this Year?
A beautiful hand tied bouquet, some finest
Belgian Chocolates and a wonderful bottle
of finest champagne.
Pink is the colour usually associated with Mother's Day so you will
find that pink flowers
will increase in price on the run up to the event mainly because everyone
wants pink
and with the market forces of supply and demand the price will go
up.
At Flower Delivery UK we know from experience of trading in our shop and
over the
internet for the last 12 years that not all mum's, sons and
daughters want pink.
So we don't saturate our pages with pink but provide a balance of all
colours.
Yellow and cream is popular as are spring flowers which are so bright and
cheerful
after the winter rains and snow.
We also find daughters are the
best and most organised about sending gifts to their mum.
Daughters seem to be well organised and order well in advance
whereas for the lads
- well they seem to be a bit last minute and well it has to be said
- several forget and we have quite a busy week after Mothers day with the
belated gifts.
But whatever you choose, you
know your Mum is so very special
and with a beautiful gift from Flower Delivery UK you'll be in Mum's good
books for another year!
