Stylish Containers
Who says flowers have to go in a vase?
We deliver
to you hand-tied bouquets which can be trimmed an placed straight
into a vase and they instantly look gorgeous.
Even better if you have received one of our own vases as the
bouquet,
once trimmed, has been designed to fit perfectly.
But maybe
you want to spend a little more time creating your own display with
the flowers -
here's a few ideas for containers and props for you to create a
style
and arrangement all of your own...
See
our page on
Tools of the Trade
for some
of the equipment you may need to help you
and
Floral Design
for basic design tips.
So here's some container ideas.....
A Silver or cut glass rose bowl
A milk Jug
Tanks filled with coloured marbles
Your plain
green potted houseplant - your florist will have what's called an
'extension tube' -
its a small plastic phial with a lid with a hole in it. Fill
the phial with water, replace the lid,
put some stems in the hole and place the tube and flowers through
the leaves of your plant.
A biscuit tin - be sure to line it properly to prevent water leakage.
A casserole pot or rustic terracotta chicken brick
Mortar and Pestle
A sieve -
place the sieve on its side and secure it to a foam base
on a small tray, then fix another piece of foam inside the sieve -
splay out the flowers to reflect the round shape and the handle
- great fun for the kitchen!
A spice rack - create tiny arrangement in the spice bottles which make great mini vases.
A fondue
pot and stand - don't forget a couple of strategically placed
fondue forks stuck in between the flowers
An old
fashioned copper kettle a teapot or coffee pot -
balance this with a secondary smaller display in a saucer or coffee cup.
A lasagne
dish for a great Italian table centre -
place water in the dish and cut large headed flowers down to about 2cm of
stem -
then float the heads in the water.
Scoop out
the flesh of a melon or pineapple and place a piece of florist foam
in the hole and create your arrangement from here - great for a cocktail
party.
An old water jug and bowl.
Old beer or medicine bottles - often coloured with lovely glass patterns.
Talking of beer - what about that silver tankard that's at the back of the cupboard?
Don't drink
beer - then cut off the top of a coke or lemonade can and
reflect the colours of the can with your choice of flowers.
A wooden
toy train - what! A toy train will have a couple of trucks to pull -
so put some foam in the trucks and create a small fun arrangement
for your children's party.
Talking of
children - remember those little red wellies that are now way too
small?
Well they kept water out but they can also keep water in! Certainly
a 'vase with a difference'.
How about
an upturned hat.. A top hat is great for a formal party
or a summer straw hat for an informal lunchtime barbecue.
Fill an ordinary glass vase with coloured seashells.
Remember
that the container does not have to be expensive, new or perfect-
you can always cover up a chip or mark with a strategically placed
stem!
So get down to that jumble sale or charity shop and pick up some
fun containers!
